About the event

The role of community engagement in Portland’s new city council

A Discussion with City Council and Mayoral Candidates

Braided River Gallery at Lloyd Center (NW of skating rink on second floor)

Thursday, July 18th at 4:00 pm

From the creation of neighborhood associations to the beach bill, clean air and PCEF,

Portlanders have always been deeply involved in making their city a safe and healthy

place for people to live, learn and work. Join us for an event designed for city council

candidates, that highlights what has worked, what we have learned, and what we want

for the future.

Agenda:

4:00 to 4:30 – Visit the Braided River gallery with community leaders. Refreshments.

4:30 -5:30 – Panel, highlighting community involvement in the city of Portland. Listen to

real stories about the struggles and successes of different community leaders including

the stories of the Superfund, Zenith, PCEF, Shade Equity and more. What can we learn

from these stories as we transition to a new form of government? Discussion and

Dialog.

5:30 – Tour of Lloyd Center - How did artists, small businesses and non-profits bring life

into a once deserted mall? What can we learn from this?

This event is a part of the Emerging Coalition; a group of over 30 non-profits and

individuals representing a wide range of interests related to the health and safety of our

communities, through a lens of environmental and social justice. The BRC Gallery

highlights the history of Portland through art, photographs, and storytelling.
